Jacob Moore and Henry Moore were early settlers in Beaufort County, later Pitt County North Carolina, settling land on the north side of the Tar River along Grindal Creek. Jacob Moore received a land grant from King George III in 1739.  Jacob Moore is believed to be the father of Henry Moore. Both men owned land in the same area along Grindal Creek and property belonging to Jacob Moore was later inherited by Henrys children. “Randolph Moore, son of Benj. Moore; Jacob Moore house; Adam Albritton house” [Pitt Co. Deed Book HH, p. 479]

Henry Moore’s participation in the Revolutionary War (DAR record # 379620 ) included being a Volunteer on an expedition to Norfolk, VA; Wilmington, NC. He was classified as a Patroller in 7/1/1775 to search suspects for firearms and other contraband. He was assigned to Captain Dannels Company according to Proceedings of Safety Committee of Pitt County NC. ( See p63 vol. 10 Colonial Records of NC by Wm. l Saunders.) Henry Moore is listed in the North Carolinas Taxpayers list as living in Pitt County in 1762, 1763, and 1764. The 1790 Census, NC page 145, listed Henry Moore Head of family, with 1 male over 16 & 4 females living in Pitt County NC New Bern District. The 1800 census listed Henry Moore over 45 years old: Benjamin Moore between 26- 45; Reddeck Moore between 10 - 16 years old; and 3 females.
